Chess Valleys Continues to build on it’s successful start to the season. 13/10/2008 Saturday saw Welwyn 4ths visit Chess valley in the Herts and Middlesex merit table, with Chess keen to continue to build on it’s impressive early season start. This they did in spectacular style with Paul Foskett scoring after only 4 minutes had gone, all starting from an impressive display of forward rucking strength and culminating in some very incisive attack running in the backs. This rich vein of dominant running rugby continued until half time with chess valley racking up an impressive 37-0 half time lead with tries from Chris Hart, Paul Foskett (x3), Phil Morton, Tom Vercoe and Francis Howe converting 4 of them. The second half started with a concentrated series of attacks from Welwyn which saw them come close to the Chess line but never actually breach it due to some outstanding organized defense, not least from man of the match Matt Lever who was ever present in rebutting Welwyn’s attempts. Once Chess had successfully defended this pressure they once more cut loose, racking up another 62 points in the second half in what turned out to be an unanswerable display of total 15 man rugby, resulting in a 99-0 scoreline, where Mark Kelly Mike Fawcett, Steve Carter and Matt Lever and Chris Hart completing a hat trick also added their names to the try sheet. Assistant Coach Chris Palmer commented that whilst this was undoubtedly a warning of what Chess Valley was capable of to the other teams in the league, the side had to keep their feet on the ground and had continue to put in the hard work that was creating fantastic results of this nature.
